Stark Carpet

With the public reveal of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra League (RSOL) Designer House just around the corner, G&HA is excited to share with you another Industry Partner Spotlight! This week we are pleased to announce our collaboration with Stark Carpet to provide flooring in the master bedroom of the RSOL House. We are sure that they will create a beautifully woven carpet that will tie the different aspects in the room together and we cannot wait to share the final design in a months time – but for now, learn more about Stark Carpet and their craft below.

Stark Carpet
Stark Carpet, a family owned company, specializes in creating custom carpets, rugs, fabrics, wall coverings and furniture for their clients. Globally, Stark Carpet is the largest producer of woven carpet and has furnished many prestigious residences, including The White House. The key to success for this company has been their dedication to creating the best possible product for their clients; they aim to fabricate beautiful and unique carpets that are unrivaled in both design and quality. The G&HA design team will be using the Churchill Stone Grey from the Nairamat Tibetan Collection, pictured below. This hand-woven rug from Nepal is made from 100% pure Tibetan wool.

A Nairamat Rug is truly one of the world’s oldest art forms. Every step during the creation is completed with the delicate touch of the human hand. The methods and tools used by Stark are the same techniques used centuries ago. From the lanolin-rich hand carded, handspun Tibetan wool, to the pot-dying process, all materials are the finest nature has to offer. Each rug is woven on an upright loom using the Tibetan Loop Senneh knot, by which each knot is tied around two warp threads and then looped around a metal rod. After weaving is finished, the rug is cut from the loom, meticulously sheared and trimmed, given a final pure water wash and sun-dried to bring out the rich hues and variations that are the hallmark of every Stark Tibetan rug.
